LIFE
LIFE BY FAVOUR. O. AUGUSTINE
A poem written for Dr. O. O. Popoola
Life is a gluttonous, empty pool,
Forever starving, never full.
It refuses to stay hollow,
Yet, it swallows without mercy.
Man is just a wandering tenant,
But still, becomes its bait in the end.
Unplanned, unexpected,
It snatches the brightest away.
And when the dust settles,
When the tears dry just a little,
It keeps marching, unfazed
Like nothing sacred was lost.
All it leaves behind
Is a pool of memories,
Heavy, tender, aching.
If life wasn’t a ravenous thing,
Why would it keep demanding
The very people we love?
Goodnight Dr. Popoola. Till we meet again sir
